Impact of transmit antenna spacing on 2 1 Alamouti radio transmission

چکیده

It is a common belief that multiple transmit antennas have to be placed far apart in order to avoid undesired effects such as mutual coupling, changing beampatterns, antenna mismatching losses, and correlation. The following radio communication setup is considered: two l=4monopole ground-plane transmit antennas, a single receive antenna, 4QAM modulation, Alamouti space-time coding, uncoded single carrier transmission at 2.4 GHz, indoor scenario. By measurements, the impact of very low transmit antenna spacing on the average uncoded BER over transmit-power performance of such a radio link, therefore accounting for all losses in the transmission chain, is examined. The common belief that multiple transmit antennas have to be placed far apart cannot be confirmed.

Asymptotic performance of space-time block codes with imperfect transmit antenna selection

Introduction: Space-time codes with antenna subset selection has been a subject of intense research recently [1–6]. In [1] and [4], the error performance of the Alamouti scheme with transmit antenna selection was investigated and it was shown that a full diversity order can be achieved, as if all the transmit antennas were used. In most of the published papers dealing with transmit antenna sele...

A Low-Complexity Transmit Diversity Scheme Using Moderate-Sized Signal Constellations

Introduction: Antenna selection scheme was introduced as a low-complexity and low-cost approach for multiple-antenna systems [2]. The idea is to select L antennas out of K antennas (L < K) at the transmitter/receiver side in a way that only L RF chains and a switch are needed in the radio front end. In this Letter, we propose a novel technique to reduce the usage of RF chains in a nT = 2 transm...

The impact of transmit-antenna spacing and signal-to-noiseratio on channel capacity has been measured intensively in a variety of scenarios. When looking at the physical layer throughput of a multiantenna communication system, the behavior over antenna spacing may look completely different, leading to other conclusions regarding the optimal antenna distance. In this paper, we compare —by testbe...

Orthogonal Dual-antenna Transmit Diversity for Soqpsk in Aeronautical Telemetry Channels

Transmit diversity schemes such as the Alamouti space-time code have been shown to be viable candidates to enable robust dual-antenna transmission from maneuvering air vehicles. However, due to the complicated structure of shaped offset quadrature phase shift keying (SOQPSK) modulation, the Alamouti approach has not been applicable to SOQPSK systems. This paper develops a precoding and detectio...

Performance of Multi-Antenna Signaling Strategies Using Dual-Polarized Antennas: Measurement Results and Analysis

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems employ spatial multiplexing to increase spectral efficiency or transmit diversity (space-time coding) techniques to improve link reliability. The performance of these signaling techniques is highly dependent on channel characteristics which in turn depend on antenna height and spacing and richness of scattering. The use of dual-polarized an...
